Getting To Know Robin And Bluebird
Robin and Bluebird moved to Folkestone from London 3 years ago and “instantly fell in love with the area when we took a drive from my parents house who live near Ashford, to Sandgate”. They found Folkestone when driving a little further and discovering the stunning views from the Leas.
After that initial outing, they explored the opportunity of moving down and found it was more and more appealing as the people were friendly, there were little independent shops along the Old High Street and all the little galleries, eateries and tea shops. The creative vibe of the area was also a big attraction.
Robin and Bluebird was formed when Mel’s son was just 2 years old and she would sew when he was napping to relax. After making a number of homemade baby grows (like the gorgeous bumble bee body suit) for friends and family, they encouraged her to start selling her creations via Facebook.
Mel’s family got involved with her brother in law designing the logo and her Mum joining 2 years later making gorgeous vintage fabric children’s cushions, quilts, bags and more beautiful items. The name Robin and Bluebird came from the very first design which was of a bird and gave Mel the idea to name the business after her 2 favourite birds.
Their collection has grown more and more over the last 6 years with lots of cute items for babies, children and big kids (the adults..!) starting on the kitchen table, but now upgrading to a dedicated sewing room in the perfect home they found when they moved to Folkestone.
